Deadline for completed applications for M. Phil and Direct Ph.D for academic year June 2009 is March 16, 2009

TISS offers M.Phil. & Ph.D. Programmes in:

  1. Habitat Studies
  2. Health Systems Studies
  3. Management and Labour Studies
  4. Rural Development
  5. Social Sciences
  6. Social Work

Admissions to M.Phil. & Ph.D. Programmes are made once in every academic year in April/May and direct admission to the Ph.D. Programme is made twice a year in April/May and January.

Eligibility

The minimum academic qualification for admission to the M.Phil. & Ph.D. Programmes is a Second Class Master's or equivalent degree in the relevant subject awarded by a recognised university in India or abroad, with at least an average of 55 per cent of aggregate marks, or a grade point average of 3.5 under the six-point grade system of the UGC.

How to Apply

  • Hard copies of Prospectus and Application Form can be obtained from the Institute's cash counter on payment of Rs. 750/-. Request for applications have to be addressed to Deputy Registrar (Academic) along with a Demand Draft of Rs. 800/-, drawn in favour of 'Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai', payable at Mumbai.
  • Individuals who download applications have to submit duly filled in forms along with a Demand Draft of Rs. 750/-, drawn in favour of 'Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai', payable at Mumbai.

Currently employed applicants should ensure that they seek necessary permissions from their employer to pursue Ph.D. Eligible applicants will be intimated by first week of April, 2009. Applicants are required to appear for a written and interview before an Admissions Panel during the third week of April 2009.
